  • The Nuclear Process Infrastructure (NPI) division supports waste packaging and disposition, oversize materials size reduction, special nuclear material shipping, the special nuclear material vault and non-destructive analysis operations.

    The scope extends across seven nuclear facilities in support of the plutonium missions, including both defense and non-defense programs to support the national security needs of the United States.

    • NPI-6: Plutonium Capability Transuranic Waste Management

      NPI-6 ensures safe, efficient and compliant management of transuranic waste. Working directly with customers and regulators to ensure waste generation compliance, reviews, inspections and guidance, NPI-6 also manages waste inventory and prepares documentation for treatment, storage and disposal facilities.

    • NPI-7, Nuclear Materials and TRU Waste Shipping

      NPI-7 ensures regulatory requirements are met to provide Department of Transportation compliance of the safe and secure transport of fissile radioactive materials.

    • NPI-9, Non-Destructive Assay and Vault Operations

      NPI-9 executes non-destructive measurements for accountability and waste characterization purposes and manages the long-term storage of nuclear material.

    • NPI-10, Plutonium Capability Low Level Waste and WCRRF Waste Operations

      NPI-10 supports low-level waste, mixed low-level waste, and hazardous waste packaging and staging operations while developing new transuranic waste capabilities. NPI-10 works directly with customers and regulators to provide safe, efficient and compliant waste management.
